Project Focus:Through collegial sharing and guidance with a published poet our participants will enhance their ability to provide instruction that encourages students to explore the world of poetry that is both promising and satisfying. Students will be immersed in poetry as readers and create poems as writers.
Questions that Frame Our Circle's Work: How can we become more familiar with poetry's unique characteristics(as Langston Hughes states - much of poetry is emotional, opening windows to our humaness) and become more comfortable exploring and teaching the genre? How can we use poetry as a vehicle to teach literacy skills?
What are some ways that we can incorporate the constructs of cultural knowledge and family and community into our literacy work with poetry?
