Growing Up In America Social Studies Project
Teacher Research Opportunity for Classroom Teachers
January 2012-June 2012
The Growing Up in America (GUA) Social Studies Project supports K-2 teachers in learning about history and social studies teaching and learning. The RCSD Social Studies Department and the Rochester Teacher Center are continuing their collaboration on this Project through a teacher research professional development model designed to help teachers learn how the curriculum and instructional approaches we have developed and produced for RCSD students promote student engagement and social studies learning. These materials are culturally responsive and reflect NYS Core Curriculum Learning Standards and RTC Cultural Learning Standards. K-2 and other elementary practitioners interested in conducting teacher research will be supported in their work with student materials, facilitated discussions, collegial guidance and support, exemplars, and a stipend of $500 and PD hours. Teacher researchers are eligible to participate in other RTC projects that may enhance their work.
Teachers who are not already part of the current GUA school year cohort should apply in groups of at least three by filling out and forwarding the application below to Jennifer Gkourlias at RCSD or Susan Goodwin at RTC.
